		<itunes:summary>For many, the Fourth of July means fireworks. However, Stillwater has laws about where residents can and cannot shoot them.

Deputy City Manager Dan Blankenship said Stillwater law states fireworks are not to be set off in the city limits. Discharging fireworks within the city limits is punishable by up to a $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.

Stillwaterrsquo;s city limits are from about 32nd Avenue to Richmond Road and from Sangre Road to Brush Creek Road.

According to Article IV, Section 12-51 of Stillwaterrsquo;s Municipal Code, fireworks include sparklers, Roman candles and firecrackers, in addition to ldquo;other fireworks of like construction, and any fireworks containing any explosive or flammable compound, or any tablets or other devices containing any explosive substance.rdquo;

According to its Web site, Lake Carl Blackwell prohibits discharging fireworks in its recreational area.

Information about Lake McMurtry, which also prohibits fireworks, is on the city of Stillwaterrsquo;s Web site. Avoid a fine and possible jail time by traveling outside the city limits to discharge fireworks.

Although fireworks cannot be used within city limits, they can be transported but not opened, Deputy Fire Marshal Neal Moore said.

ldquo;We havenrsquo;t had that much moisture to begin with; things are going to dry out in a hurry,rdquo; Moore said about the dangers of brush fires caused by fireworks. ldquo;Just be safe and be cautious.rdquo;

Those who are discharging their own fireworks should always have a bucket of water handy, said medical officer James Roe of Stillwater Fire Department headquarters. He said itrsquo;s somewhat common for the fire department to get called out because of fireworks when the weather has been dry.

Amy Jo Frasier, an employee of the Parks, Events and Recreation Department, said an option for those who donrsquo;t want to leave the city is to watch the Boomer Blast mdash; a fireworks display at Boomer Lake.

According to the city of Stillwaterrsquo;s Web site, the fireworks display will begin at dusk and Stillwater Radio KSPI 93.7 will play music during the fireworks display, and will do a live remote from 7 to 9 p.m. In case of rain, the fireworks display will occur on July 5 at the same time, according to http://www.stillwater.org.

According to the city of Stillwaterrsquo;s Web site, the park opens at 6 p.m., fireworks start at dusk, and the Stillwater Community Band will play on dock starting at 8 p.m.

Deputy Fire Marshall Neal Moore said about 780 fireworks and 1,100 ground displays will be set off, not including more than 500 fireworks in the finale.

Stillwater also has other events on the Fourth of July.

The Family Fishing Tournament will be held from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Boomer Lake.

ldquo;The entry fee is $12 per team of four and you must have a fishing license to compete,rdquo; said Sherry Fletcher, Stillwater director of marketing and public relations.

Registration will begin at 6 a.m. at the south boat ramp.

If fishing is too slow paced, try the 15-year-old event Tour de Payne.

The event is an annual bicycle ride commemorating the beginning of the Land Run in Payne County. It has four routes, which all start at the Stillwater Junior High, ranging from distances of 20 to 105 miles.

ldquo;There are not age groups, just distance groups,rdquo; Mary Cash said, owner of Cooperrsquo;s Bicycle Center.

ldquo;Our youngest rider ever was 6 years old, wersquo;ll have 80-yearndash;olds, and a lot of your hardcore riders will be in their 30s, 40s, even 50s.rdquo;

The event is hosted by the Red Dirt Pedalers Bicycle Club, which is a group dedicated to bicycle awareness.

The longest route takes riders through Perkins, Ripley, Cushing, Oilton and Yale.

To pre-register, go to http://www.reddirtpedalers.org or go in person to Cooperrsquo;s Bicycle Center.
