Pictures of OSU, family members and any thing in between are being submitted to the Student Union photography contest, which is open to all OSU students. The deadline for the contest is Oct. 31 and the photos will be on display through November in the Union.
A lot can happen in the Union: everything from late night meetings held in various organization offices to students grabbing a bite to eat.
The Student Union Marketing Department is trying to show the mood of the Union by holding a photography contest.
This contest is designed to show what the Union means to students.
Debbie Shotwell, the Union marketing manager, said she hopes to receive a lot of entries for the contest, which is in its first year.
“We really want something that captures the spirit of the building,” Shotwell said.
All photographs must be originals taken by a student.
The pictures can be black and white or color with only minor alterations made.
Shotwell also gave another important rule.
“Keep it clean,” she said.
If you have ever walked through the Union, you might have noticed that many of the pictures are staged.
The contest was created to change this.
“We are just looking for different. Different perspectives, different angles, different stories,” Shotwell said.
“We just really hope to get a lot of unique entries.”
People of all skill levels are welcome to enter.
The contest was created to find photos from students who can offer a different way of seeing the Union.
“Some of the best photographs we get are just from the students hanging out here late at night,” said Kassidy Conway, Campus Life graphic designer.
After the judges are finished, Union employees will notify the winner on Nov. 14.
The winner of the contest receives a $50 shopping spree in the Student Store in the Union, a framed copy of the photograph and his or her picture displayed in the Union outside the bookstore.
All contest entries are due by Oct. 31.
