Dancing rabbits, guns, soldiers and rock music were just a few of the sounds that filled the Student Union Atrium on Monday.
This crazy but fun combination was all from students playing video games brought to campus by the Game U Challenge Tour.
The tour features several games that are not yet in stores, such as “Gears of War 2” and “Raving Rabbids.”
The tour gives students a chance to try some new games and win prizes.
The main event for this tour is the Gears of War 2 tournament. The winner gets a chance to represent OSU in an online tournament at the end of the tour against winners from 20 other schools.
The winner of that tournament is eligible for a much bigger prize.
“They have a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to North Carolina to meet the people who created the game,” said Drake Cooper, tournament coordinator.
“Also, they win a home theater from Best Buy, an Xbox 360 and the game.”
“Gears of War 2” was on display all day so students could try it out before playing in the tournament, and it seemed to be well-liked.
“My favorite thing is like, a lot of new things that they’ve added,” said Nathan Moody, sports management junior.
“You can use people as shields, and there are new guns that they’ve added.”
“But one of the guns that I didn’t like was the flamethrower. I thought it was kind of cheap,” he said.
Though the “Gears of War 2” tournament is the tour’s main event, it features other games as well.
“Rockband 2,” “Star Wars,” and a plethora of EA Sports games were available for play, with “Raving Rabbids” at the center of attention.
“Raving Rabbids,” a game soon to come out on the Nintendo Wii, involves rabbits doing everything from dancing to sliding down the slopes — on other animals.
Using the Wii remotes and sometimes a balance board, the players take their rabbit characters through a series of levels and challenges against other players.
The game has been highly anticipated, but some wonder how good it will be.
“It was entertaining,” said Logan Rinehart, agriculture junior.
“It’s probably more for kids and stuff, but it was pretty fun.”
The Game U Challenge Tour brought a wide variety of entertainment to campus, ranging from games with dancing rabbits and people shooting their opponents to the calmer option of a sports game.
