We’re sure everyone enjoyed reading about how the artists at Orange Peel felt about playing in Stillwater.
Oh, wait — that’s right.
We actually didn’t find that out. We didn’t find anything out from any artist.
You won’t find any quotes or interviews from the Sugarland duo, Kellie Pickler, Ashton Shepherd or any Motion City Soundtrack band members in today’s O’Collegian.
This isn’t from lack of trying.
For the past few weeks, the O’Colly editors and reporters have worked with the Orange Peel executive committee to try to schedule interviews.
We dub this “epic fail” on the tour management of the bands.
Maybe the artists’ tour managers didn’t feel it was necessary for the musicians to talk with the media because Orange Peel ticket sales did so well from the get go.
No need to use us for extra publicity to boost ticket sales.
So, come to Oklahoma, take our money and peace out before spending 15 minutes talking to any Oklahoma media.
Many Oklahomans love country music.
It would be nice if its management loved us back.
Sugarland, Kellie Pickler and Ashton Shepherd all held “meet and greet” sessions for their fan club members.
Nowhere in the five hours or so that they were in Stillwater could they find time to meet with the O’Colly.
We know tour schedules are hectic and tour managers work to make them efficient.
But when does “efficient” turn into just rude behavior?
After the show, we were told that the bands “might” call us.
It’s Sunday — a full day after the show — and our phones have yet to ring.
The O’Colly editorial members aren’t upset because no one from the O’Colly got to meet the artists.
Yes, that would have been neat.
What would have been cooler is if we would have been allowed to do our jobs: bring you — the students, faculty, staff and alumni — information you wouldn’t read anywhere else.
Orange Peel has started to become a great tradition at OSU.
We hope that this type of artist behavior doesn’t.
— The O’Collegian Editorial Board

It’s a shame you weren’t able to ask Kellie Pickler what country Budapest is the capital of.
I am sorry that you did not get to speak with Jennifer and Kristian, but you don’t know why you did not get to do so. You say that they were rude to you for not taking 15 minutes to speak with you? I say it was rude to call them so because they could not do what you would have liked them too.
That’s what you get for having Nashville sellouts at orange peel. Next time get a band that is in it for the music not the cash. Texas/red dirt country is the only country.
Ed Board–quit whining. Be glad that we had an Orange Peel, and were able to get such acts as Ashton Shepard, Kellie Pickler, Motion City Soundtrack, and Sugarland. In a Sugarland song, they had around a minute of Stillwater-specific video. They didn’t have to do that.
Quit focusing on the negative.
Jaclyn,
Maybe the bands didn’t speak to you because the O’Colly isn’t that big of a deal. They didn’t lose anything by not speaking to you. Get over yourself.
Steve
Steve,
Jaclyn doesn’t actually write the editorial. Good try though.
B. Schmidt
Breanne,
She did write this one. I was at work that night. But she normally doesn’t. This was one of a few exceptions.
After the article I read about why they shouldn’t have country music at Orange Peel, do you really think they would want to take the time to talk to yall? I have met Jenn and Kristian and they are 2 of the nicest celebs I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. You don’t know what was going on for them to not be able to speak to you and to assume it is because they are only in it for the cash and not the fans is absurd! If that was the case, why would they release the Deluxe Fan Edition first and not after the regular CD? They wanted the fans not to feel like they had to buy 2 of their CDs to get the bonus stuff! They write for the fans and that is why they are where they are..because of the fans..not the media. I could never read another interview by them and still think they were the best thing since sliced bread! I’m glad they do interviews, but that isn’t what makes them so amazing. It is the connection they have with the fans and they get that from meeting the fans and reading the letters the fans write. So, please get off your “high and mighty” “they owe us this” soap box…
