From Staff Reports
Cowboy fans should avoid the Cimarron Turnpike on their return home from the Texas A&M football game this Saturday, according to the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.
After this past Saturday’s game against Troy, traffic was delayed for about 30 minutes to an hour at the gate because of construction, said Jack Damrill, Oklahoma Turnpike Authority public information officer.
Drivers should take different routes “so we don’t have 25,000 people going into one area,” Damrill said. “Anytime you have that many people going into one area, you’re going to have problems.”
Fans can take alternate routes such as State Highway 51 east to State Highway 18, then north on SH-18 to the Cimarron Turnpike. They can also take State Highway 177 north to State Highway 64, then go east to the Cimarron Turnpike.
Damrill said traffic moved constantly after the Troy game at about 5 mph through the construction, which has reduced the number of lanes from four to two with one lane in each direction.
The construction should be completed before the next home football game Oct. 18, possibly by Oct. 13 or 14, he said.
Damrill said he hopes people will take alternate routes “basically so people don’t have to sit in this line.”
