Orange Pages: Stillwater's Little Black Book

We’ve all experienced true Pokes fans’ attire at the games.

Becca Whitman shares what’s appropriate (and what’s not so much) for the first home game.

Although I’m sure we’ll beat Houston, showing school spirit is the best way to help out our team.

In honor of our first home game this weekend, I have decided to write some guidelines strictly on school spirit apparel.

I have seen some really crazy outfits in the past and whether they were risqué, creative, boring or just plain lackluster; fashion is important when it comes to the games.

Your outfit at the game says so much about you and why you’re there.

When you see girls or guys wearing blue jeans and a plain T-shirt, no OSU logo anywhere, you can tell they came only because someone made them come.

Then you see the crazy person in the first row wearing an orange ‘fro, body paint from head to toe, sporting a huge foam finger, and you know that person’s parents raised them on OSU football.

Either way, what you wear really does matter at the game.

Things for girls to wear: jeans, black shorts, skirts (not too short), OSU fitted T-shirts, cowboy boots, hats (cowboy or sports) and jerseys.

Things you shouldn’t wear: extremely short shorts or skirts, OSU manmade belly shirts, high heels (you’re really going to stand in those the entire game?), revealing shirts or short and low-cut dresses.

Anything that you would wear to the club, DON’T wear to the game.

Paige Jones, a senior at OSU, gave me her opinion on fashion at football games.

B.W.: Where is the best place to buy school-spirit clothing?

Paige: I buy all my clothing on campus in the Student Union … bursar!

B.W.: What’s the craziest thing you’ve worn to a game?

Paige: The craziest thing I’ve worn was an orange OSU shirt, black skirt, orange and white striped stockings and my black and white checkered vans … with orange spiked hair.

B.W.: What are some of the best outfits you’ve seen during the game?

Paige The best outfits are just people that either go all out crazy or keep it simple. I love when people wear the OSU tattoos on their faces.

B.W.: What do you like that the opposite sex wears to the games?

Paige: I like when guys wear the tattered bandannas around their wrist and foam fingers … gotta love foam fingers!

Other suggestions for guys: shorts, khakis, jeans, OSU hats, jerseys, T-shirts (OSU of course), body paint (always enjoyed by the female population) and foam fingers.

Things nobody should wear: Polos, short tight shorts (yes, I have seen this), another college’s school shirt (especially NOT OU), spurs (OK at the ranch, not in the stadium).

A few stores where you can purchase school-spirit clothing are The Endzone, For Pete’s Sake and Chris’ University Spirit.

I checked out some Web sites where you can order tons of OSU stuff.

The best I found is http://www.sportsfanfare.com/oklahoma-state-university-cowboys-view-all.html.

The Web site has everything from hats and coolers to watches and picture frames.

So girls, grab your cowboy boots and a cute shirt from Chris’ University Spirit.

Make sure your guy is wearing an OSU hat and a bandanna on his wrist and head to the OSU game this weekend in style.
