Senior cornerback T.J. Bell is one of several members of the Cowboy secondary to earn a big-hitting label in the offseason.
When you think of the Oklahoma State secondary last year, you probably remember the career days opposing offenses had against it.
Often getting passed on for huge numbers last year, the defense must improve this season for the Cowboys to improve on last year’s 7-6 record.
One of the bright spots to last year’s defense was Jacob Lacey.
Lacey, a senior from Garland, Texas, will be counted on to provide a solid foundation for the rest of the defense to build off.
Members of the secondary each have their thoughts on what will make this year different.
Ricky Price, a senior safety, said it will be a different attitude that will get the job done.
“We definitely have more fire and intensity out there,” Price said. “I am just looking forward to proving to the world what Oklahoma State defense is all about.”
Perrish Cox, junior cornerback, said he believes it will be because he is more familiar with the system.
“This is my third year playing corner back,” Cox said. “I feel much more comfortable playing now. I feel like this year is my time.”
Senior Quentin Moore said it all boils down to having your teammate’s back.
“I think our team chemistry is so much better this year,” Moore said.
“As important as it is for us individually to win, it’s even more important for us as a team to play together.”
New blood may also be key, as the talk of offseason junior college transfer, Lucien Antoine, a junior safety, has brought a big-hit mentality to a team that in years past has been considered soft.
“Lucien Antoine and [linebacker] Donald Booker helped bring that mentality to our team,” Price said. “We are just looking to go out have fun and hit.”
Also, junior Maurice Gray and freshman Markelle Martin could see plenty of action this season.
