The Cowgirl soccer team returns to the pitch Friday night against in-state rival Oral Roberts.

After beating SMU 3-0 in the season opener, Oklahoma State will head to Tulsa for Oral Roberts’ season opener.

ORU went 1-2 in its preseason under new coach Ryan Bush and looks to get its regular season started on the right foot against a talented OSU club.

OSU is 8-2 all-time against ORU and has won six straight games against the Golden Eagles, including a 3-0 victory last season.

Although the Cowgirls are ready for Friday’s game, they know it will still be a challenge.

“It will be tough, on paper I think we’re the favorite team but they always play hard against us,” coach Colin Carmichael said. “It won’t be an easy game.”

The team knows it will be a tough test as well.

“Every game is a challenge,” junior midfielder Siera Strawser said. “We just go out and play the best that we can and we look at every game as a challenge.”

The talent of the Cowgirls doesn’t hurt their chances, either. The Cowgirls have a deep roster, including All-American Yolanda Odenyo and outstanding newcomer Kyndall Treadwell.

The depth showed last week when a freshman, sophomore and junior all scored for the Cowgirls, including Treadwell’s first collegiate goal and a goal from last year’s leading scorer, Siera Strawser.

Those players will need to continue to score if they want to win against ORU; however, coach Carmichael said he isn’t worried about it.

“We scored three but being super picky, we could have had four or five,” Carmichael said. “At times we look very good.”

All that remains is to see whether the Cowgirls are ready to step up against an in-state foe.

The Golden Eagles posted a 8-9-3 record last year; however, Oral Roberts has a new coach and still has some talented players on the team that could test Oklahoma State.

“We’re ready,” Carmichael said. “Make no mistake, we’ll take their best shot.”
