The offensive line was a strength for the 2007 team, and this year’s line could be even better.
The main difference this year will be the added depth, junior tackle Russell Okung said.
“Definitely, we have a whole lot more depth on this team this year,” Okung said. “We have [tackles] who can come out and contribute, guards that can do the same thing as well.
“We even have two deep at center. We’re in a lot better shape this year.”
Senior center David Washington, who is rebounding from a broken leg, said he believes this is the best offensive line since he’s been here.
“I think we’re really, really good,” Washington said.
“We have a lot more depth and a lot more age. We’re more mature. It’s looking good.”
Offensive line coach Joe Wickline said the projected starting lineup has Okung at left tackle, junior Andre Lewis at left guard, Washington at center, senior Steve Denning at right guard and junior Brady Bond at right tackle.
Other linemen expected to get playing time include juniors Andrew Mitchell, Noah Franklin and Andrew Lawrence; sophomore Trent Perkins; freshmen Nick Martinez and Jonathan Rush.
Wickline said he will use the depth to keep the line fresh the entire game.
