Laughter is the best medicine

Katie Dinsmore joined a nearly-packed crowd at the Seretean Center Wednesday night to laugh along to the Second City Comedy Theater, where stars like funny-woman Tina Fey and Steve Carell caught their breaks.

A unique mix of sketch comedy (think Saturday Night Live or MadTV) and improvisation gave audience members something to laugh about at the Seretean Center on Wednesday night.

The Seretean Concert Hall was nearly packed as the Second City Comedy Theater group performed a free show full of witty sketches, poking fun at politics, celebrities and sports.

The beginning musical number was about going for your dreams, no matter how abstract and illegal they might seem and had the audience rolling.

Sketches parodying politicians and NASCAR fans trying to make sense of the war in Iraq had the audience cracking up.

The cast’s improv was by far the most entertaining.

The audience got involved by throwing out topics and ideas for them to act out.

The cast included three men and three women with a piano accompanist acting out Anime karate noises as well as a Tom Cruise impersonation.

Such stars as Mike Myers, Tina Fey and Steve Carell have performed with Second City in the past.

The group showcases upcoming talent in theaters across the United States.

When the Second City cast comes to Stillwater, make sure you’re there.

With plenty of hilarious antics and laughs to go around, it’s the obvious choice for comedic relief from stressful college life.

Went into Serentean Center at 8:10 pm to a lights out lobby and locked doors to seating. Overheard the “Lights on Stillwater” stuff, asked around and everyone said “Oh, no they would not schedule both these events simultaneously”….. I left driving back home for 2 hours disapointed that I missed Second City……

My cousin is a part of the Second City group (the husky guy on the right in the picture above) and he said we were a great crowd. Even though I’ve seen some of the sketchs a few times, it’s still hilarious. Could have done without some of the partisan political jokes though.
