All lights are green for Lights on Stillwater.
The annual event is tonight at 7:00 p.m. on Library Lawn.
It was originally scheduled for August 20, but was postponed because of rain the previous days.
Now celebrating its 20th birthday, Lights on Stillwater has had a long history of promoting both the Stillwater community and campus organizations.
SGA vice president and organizer Dillon Wilcox said about 200 booths will be present tonight to promote their respected organizations and businesses.
“Some booths dropped out,” Wilcox said. “But other organizations have taken advantage of [the postponement].”
Campus radio station KXZY and Domino’s Pizza are two businesses that SGA added over the past week.
Wilcox said he feels that Lights on Stillwater is an important event because it allows students to realize, “This is where I can get a haircut, this is where I can get a burrito, or this is what church I can feel at home with.”
Simply put, Lights on Stillwater could easily be known better as a festival for all items that happen to be free.
Students are the winners because an unimaginable amount of free items are going to be given away.
Restaurants ranging from Arby’s to Qdoba will allow those in attendance to taste a sample of their goodness.
“It is important to be involved in the community,” said Brad Essary, a manager at Red Rock Café.
Red Rock Café will have representatives handing out discount coupons and selling t-shirts.
Many campus organizations are going to be present.
Feel free to brush up on politics with the Young Democrats Club or the Stillwater League of Women Voters.
Local businesses like Cooper’s Bike Shop will stop by Lights on Stillwater.
Manager Mary Cash says hopes to spread the word about the many bike trails in Stillwater.
Live music, DJ’s and eight light towers will keep the festivities going until 9:00 p.m
Door prizes will be offered at the conclusion of the evening.
The price to attend this event is practically free.
One dollar or one canned food item is the price of admission.
Lights on Stillwater has many things to offer, so make sure to stop by and see the light for yourself.
