Seth Rogan (left) and James Franco (right) are up to no agood in “Pineapple Express,” a comedy directed by Judd Apatow of “40 Year Old Virgin” and “Knocked Up.”
Last laughs of summer
Although the title “Pineapple Express” sounds like a fruit delivery business owned by Dole Plantation, in actuality it is a hilarious comedy.
Penned by Judd Apatow (“40 Year Old Virgin,” “Knocked Up”), “Pineapple Express” follows a lovable stoner named Dale Denton (Seth Rogan), who witnesses a vicious murder.
Denton quickly gets tangled in the affairs of a drug kingpin, a hilarious drug dealer named Saul (James Franco) and two drugged-up hit men. The film’s plot is completely ridiculous, but you will be laughing too hard to notice.
Hilarious dialogue, unnecessary fights and over-the-top action make “Pineapple Express” the funniest movie of the summer and possibly of the year. Plus, Franco gives his best on-screen performance ever.
Although the film warns against making friends with drug dealers, it would be worth making an exception for Saul.
The film plays out like a combination of all the best moments from an old Cheech and Chong film and “Grand Theft Auto IV,” which makes for a hilarious comedy baby that begs to be seen.
Make your way to the Carmike 10 as soon as possible.
