Last laughs of summer
In the movie that commercials are billing the comedy of the summer, Tropic Thunder brings nothing more than a few cheap laughs.
The film attempts to replace funny dialogue with huge explosions, gross out moments and beastly Tom Cruise dance scenes. While the cast must have cost a fortune to assemble, the only actor who earns his paycheck is Robert Downey Jr.
Downey plays the African-American platoon leader Kirk Lazarus so well that you quickly forget it is Downey. Director and star Ben Stiller unsuccessfully attempts to play a mentally handicapped character in many scenes.
Jack Black delivers some memorable one-liners, but was grossly under used.
Overall, the film provides only a few real laughs and is half an hour too long.
Save your money.
