(MCT) — Oklahoma State opens the 2008-09 basketball season with a bang.
The Cowgirls, who reached the Sweet Sixteen and finished 27-8 last season, will travel to Duke for the season-opener on Nov. 14.
“It will be exciting to open against Duke in one of the great arenas in the country,” Oklahoma State coach Kurt Budke said in a press release. “We have upgraded our schedule every year and I think this is the toughest schedule we have had to this point.”
Of the 29-game slate, 17 will be played at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Also highlighting the nonconference portion of the schedule are home dates with Texas Christian on Dec. 14 and Oral Roberts on Dec. 16.
The Cowgirls open Big 12 Conference play on the road Jan. 10, 2009 at Iowa State. The Cowgirls have a three-game home stretch against Texas on Feb. 5, Oklahoma on Feb. 8 and Baylor on Feb. 11. It is OSU’s longest stretch of home games during conference play.
Oklahoma State travels to Oklahoma on Feb. 28.
“There are no off nights in the Big 12 and every game will be a battle,” Budke said. “Looking at our league schedule, I am reminded of the fact we play in the No. 1 RPI league in the country.”
