STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State women’s track and field coach Rene Sepulveda announced six additions to the Cowgirls’ 2008 signing class Tuesday.
Kendra Woodson (Farmington, N.M.), Brittani Johnson (West Plains, Mo.), Jessica Lewis (Crowley, Texas), Autumn Moses (Tulsa, Okla.), Heather Estetter (Fort Smith, Ark.) and Mykka Jasper (Anadarko, Okla.) will join the OSU squad.
Woodson, who will compete in sprints and hurdles, was the high scorer at the 2008 New Mexico state track and field championships, winning the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles and was the runner-up in the 200 meters.
“Kendra has great potential as a 400 meter hurdler in college and will also work on her 100 meter hurdles and possibly compete in the heptathlon in the future,” Sepulveda said.
Johnson, a distance runner, was a Missouri individual state champion in cross country in both 2005 and 2006.
“Brittani was a team leader coming out of high school,” Sepulveda said. “Her work ethic and leadership will be a big asset for the upcoming cross country season. She could be a big surprise when she moves to the 6,000-meter distance in cross country. She’d like to focus on the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters during the track and field seasons.”
Lewis, a thrower, was an all-state honoree.
“Jessica has the power and quickness to become an all-Big 12 performer in the hammer,” Sepulveda said. “She will compete in the weight throw indoors and the hammer and discus outdoors.”
Moses, a sprinter, was a third-place finisher at the Oklahoma 5A state meet in the 400 meters and posted top-five finishes in the 4×100 meter relay, the 4×200 meter relay and the 4×400 meter relay.
“Autumn has potential to be an all-Big 12 performer in the 400 meter hurdles and will be a big asset in our relays next season,”Sepulveda said.
Estetter, a distance runner, was the 2008 Arkansas 7A state champion in the 1,600 meters and won the title in the mile at the 2008 Arkansas Meet of Champions.
“She has the potential to qualify for the U.S. Junior Nationals in the 1,500 meters her freshman year,” Sepulveda said. “Our coaching staff was impressed by her competitive nature and her long-term potential in the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters.”
Jasper, a thrower, was coached by former Oklahoma State football player Lavon Hicks. Without ever lifting weights, threw 120 feet in the discus and 14 feet in the shot put.
“Mykka is a great addition to our incoming throws class,” Sepulveda said. “We are excited about her potential and see her as someone who can do well in a college program.”
