While everyone else pays, a limited number of employees may park for free, including the director of the Student Union.
These lucky people receive this benefit for various reasons including leaving and returning to campus frequently for business or being required to remain on call 24 hours a day.
The Union parking garage is available for public use and is not affiliated with Parking and Transit Services. Cars may park for $10 per day or $1.25 per hour. There is no charge for those parked less than 30 minutes. Parking rates increased from last year’s $8 per day or $1 per hour.
“Most of the people who park in the garage are parents visiting, people staying in the hotel for business conferences or students who come to take care of something in the financial aid, bursar or enrollment offices,” Student Union director Mitch Kilcrease said.
Parking is a precious commodity everywhere on campus. Students and faculty must buy a permit to park in several on-campus lots. However, although the price of parking permits has remained the same for years, Parking and Transit Services said it will go up by an undetermined amount next year.
“It [parking] is no better, no worse than at other college campuses,” Kilcrease said. “However, OSU has a great transit system for anyone to use.”

I don’t think parking fees should be allowed to go up. It’s already a ten minute walk from most commuter lots to classrooms. I don’t see why I should have to pay to park in a crappy gravel parking lot ten minutes away from the heart of campus. There’s certainly no money being put in to maintaining it. And the bus system is a joke, I had to stop riding it because my bus was always so full by the time it arrived at my stop it couldn’t take on any more passengers. Waiting for the overflow bus to arrive made me late for classes. Totally unreliable.
