Storm chances dwindle on Friday but continue to loom

Published: June 20, 2008

(AP) — Thunderstorm chances will begin to dwindle across Oklahoma on Friday, but they won’t completely go away.

The National Weather Service said the state will remain in a northwest flow pattern, where thunderstorms form on the high Plains east of the Rockies and track southeastward during the overnight hours. There will be opportunities for precipitation, but they will fall into the slight category.

On Thursday, skies were clear to partly cloudy and temperatures ranged from 80 degrees in Gage to 93 degrees in Frederick and Lawton. The mercury peaked at 88 degrees in Tulsa, McAlester and Stillwater and at 90 degrees in Guthrie and Oklahoma City, according to the weather service.

Skies should remain partly cloudy through Saturday, with a chance of storms early Friday. Highs should reach the 80s during the day and dip into the 50s and 60s Friday, forecasters said.

Temperatures are expected to reach the 80s and low 90s on Saturday as a slight chance of showers and storms remains in the forecast for the Oklahoma Panhandle and southeastern sections of the state.

Sunday skies should be mainly clear, according to the weather service. Highs in the 90s are expected and lows should fall into the 60s.

Partly cloudy and skies and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms for the Panhandle are expected on Monday. Highs should reach the 90s and lows should fall into the 60s.

The same is forecast for Tuesday, but storm chances will shift to central and eastern Oklahoma. Highs should reach the 80s and 90s and lows in the 60s are expected.
