Eddie Sutton Court is getting a facelift, and fans can help decide the fate of the design—or so we think.
Yes, “fans” — whether they actually cheer for the Cowboys or reside in Norman and want to sabotage the poll — can have a say in the court design. But maybe not.
The Web designer for OSU athletics said the winning design “won’t necessarily be the final design of the court,” which is a relief.
It’s nice to know Sooner fans, especially those from the http://www.soonerfans.com message board, won’t be able to start a massive push to choose “Choice 7,” which features the dreaded flaming OSU logo.
All eight designs have a new look for half court, taking out the big “O” that has graced it since 2005. Thank you—the OSU brand looks a lot better.
The designs also take away the fade from orange and black in “the paint,” which we also think looks better.
It is odd, though, that all of the designs listed on http://okstate.com either greatly reduce Eddie Sutton’s signature or replace the signature with a printed version of his name. Five of the designs have printed versions of Sutton’s name, while three have the signature that has been scaled down.
Is there something wrong with putting the same-sized signature that is on the current court under the OSU brand on all of the proposed designs? We aren’t sure why Sutton’s signature should either be replaced with print or be dwarfed.
Is this more athletic department “politicking” going on, or are we just conspiracy theorists? We hope not.
Sutton brought OSU back to the glory days circa Henry Iba and does not deserve to have his signature dwarfed or transformed into print.
So, go to http://okstate.com and vote for your favorite design, even though your vote may not actually determine the court’s new look. Unless you are a member of http://www.soonerfans.com. If that is the case then, well, get a life.

I am glad someone else agrees with this. Eddie Sutton done a lot for OSU while he was here. None of us can remember what it was like before he came to coach but we all know how proud we are of OSU basketball now and a lot of that is because of him. Either through all the winning years he had or him helping us to look back at OSU history and remember what it was like during Iba’s time. He made a mistake but it doesnt take away from all the joy and love for OSU basketball that he gave us and he should be remembered for it by the honor given to him by having his name on our court.
