Stephenie Meyer’s novels have captivated readers with their ability to combine fantasy with bits of reality. The stories of vampires, humans and werewolves will come to life in a film based on the first book this winter.
“Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer is the first in a series of novels about Bella Swan and her vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen.
Newcomer Stephenie Meyer really shines with these novels.
Her ability to take fantasy elements and blend them with real, believable characters is spot on.
Each character, whether human, vampire or werewolf is so real and believable that accepting Meyer’s world is hardly a difficult task.
Although the books are labeled a “romance,” Meyer blends in a healthy amount of humor and suspense, resulting in a genre- blurring adventure.
In “Twilight,” Bella, a book-smart plain Jane, moves to Forks, Wash. to live with her father.
On her first day of school she is drawn to the mysterious Cullens family, who she later finds out is a family of vampires.
The danger grows as Bella and Edward get closer. Just one mistake could lead to her death.
Meyer continues the series in “New Moon.”
When things take a turn for the worse in Bella and Edward’s relationship, Bella takes comfort in Jacob Black.
The two quickly become best friends, but Bella discovers that he, like Edward, has secrets of his own.
The series’ mythology deepens with the revelation that a pack of werewolves are responsible for protecting people from “bloodsuckers.”
Bella finds herself in the middle of this rivalry, unsure of where her allegiances lie.
“Eclipse” is the latest chapter of Bella and Edward’s tale. It’s a time of change for Bella in several ways. She’s about to graduate and is trying to convince Edward to change her.
Though Edward is strongly opposed to the idea, neither of them have time to focus on it.
There is a mysterious group of newborn vampires ravaging Seattle.
Although the city thinks it is a new serial killer, Bella, the Cullens and the werewolves find out otherwise.
They slowly realize that an old enemy has resurfaced and the army of newborns may be connected to Bella.
Aug. 2 marks the release date of the fourth part of the series, “Breaking Dawn.”
It promises to tie up loose ends and answer any questions the first three left up in the air.
Meyer isn’t ending there, however.
She’s also working on a companion book to “Twilight,” titled “Midnight Sun.”
It will be told from the perspective of Edward, opposed to the Bella-centered narration of the previous novels.
A film based on the first book is also in the works and is set to release in December.
People looking for a book they can’t put down should pick up “Twilight.”
Meyer’s writing style, along with her suspense-building ability makes this series the easiest to read (and quickest) since Harry Potter.
It, along with its sequels, offers a thrill ride of emotion, humor, danger and fantasy.
And with two more books and a film franchise in the works, it’s never been a better time to fall in love with a vampire.

Thanks for the review, Chevy. I will definitely put this book on my wish list.
I love this writer. I want to see more articles like this in the O’Colly.
Romy sure is advanced for her age….
