Vault Video has worked to become a music venue at night, while maintaining the video store by day. Mayola and The Neighborhood play tonight for all ages and $5 at the door.
Although video is known for killing the radio star, local movie rental store Vault Video has worked to change that image.
David Christopher, owner of Vault Video, turned his modest independent business into what can be described as the largest superhero in existence.
Vault Video will stay a mild-mannered movie rental store by day, but it will become a wicked rock venue by night.
“We did not want to go into this when The Happy Narwhal was still open,” said Christopher, “but now we are hoping to fill a void in Stillwater.”
That void will be filled tonight as Vault Video hosts Mayola and The Neighborhood for the first of many concerts at this all ages venue.
Because past popular venues, namely Mike’s College Bar and The Happy Narwhal, have become only memories, the Stillwater music scene has long been gasping for a breath of fresh air.
By creating an all ages venue, Christopher serves his college town well because it does not have many venues of that nature or in general.
It is clear that he is concerned with building the community as he said his mission to build the community is “just wanting to help build Stillwater.”
Also the headlining band builds upon a sense of community Mayola, which consists of Madden Humphry, Riley Jantzen, Bryan Thompson, Travis Nichols, and Anonio Laster.
Each member began his musical escapades in Enid, but now each all finds himself settled firmly in Stillwater.
Stillwater impressed the band from its beginning
“We had no idea how accepting the community would be,” guitarist Nichols said.
After spending roughly a year’s time as Mayola, the band has quickly become a staple in the local music scene by crafting a unique lyrically driven and powerful rock sound.
A long-time employee at Vault Video, keyboardist Thompson said, “A lot of customers here are involved in the Stillwater music scene, and [Vault Video shows] will be Dave’s way of trying to give back to all the people that have come in and helped us out.”
It is truly inspiring to see the Stillwater community in action, as individuals work to help each other out.
So, if you find yourself on The Strip tonight about 9, make sure you stop by Vault Video in order to celebrate its first concert.
The venue is, of course, all ages and the cost is $5 at the door.
