Oklahoma State scored a run in the top of the first Wednesday night, but it was all the Cowgirls could muster in their second straight Bedlam game.
The Cowgirls lost 6-1 to the No. 8 Sooners at the OU Softball Complex after losing 3-1 in Stillwater on Tuesday.
Mariah Gearhart led off the game with a bunt single and went to second when Sooner catcher Lindsey Vandever threw the ball into shallow right field. Katelyn Bright followed with a sharply hit ball into left field. Gearhart hesitated at third base but ran home when Chana’e Jones misplayed the ball, allowing Bright to also advance to second.
Amber Flores responded with a home run to lead off the bottom half of the first. The Sooners added two runs in the third inning on three singles and Vandever’s squeeze bunt. Wendy Trott led off the fourth with a homer to straight-away centerfield to increase OU’s lead to 4-1.
Oklahoma scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning on Cowgirl second-baseman Alysia Hamilton’s error with two outs, making the score 6-1.
The Cowgirls (24-22 overall, 7-7 Big 12) threatened in the sixth inning when Bright and Hamilton hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. With two outs, Heather Kim reached on an error to load the bases.
However, Ashley Boyd fouled out to the catcher to end the inning.
OSU also had base runners in the seventh inning. Jessica Meza swung at a third strike but reached first on a wild pitch to start the rally. Breana Casaus reached on a fielder’s choice as pinch runner Sarah Carriger was thrown out at second.
With two outs, Bright recorded her third hit of the evening, putting runners on first and second. However, Hamilton hit a hard grounder up the middle. Flores made a running stop and dived to tag second ahead of Bright to end the game.
Oklahoma State will travel to Lawrence, Kan., this weekend to take on the Kansas Jayhawks (32-15, 4-8). Game times are set for 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
