Some departments or services might not accept bursar charges until May 5 starting Friday.
Bursar employee Laurie Beets said each department or store on campus that accepts bursar charges decides its policy on charges for the last two weeks of the semester.
“Each department determines its own time frame, so the bursar doesn’t set the deadlines,” she said. “I’m not aware University Health Services has any deadline because they have to see students as they come in.”
The Student Union Bookstore will not accept bursar charges for textbooks after Friday.
Lance Hinkle, the Student Union Bookstore associate director, said the bookstore will accept charges for other items, but it won’t accept textbook charges.
“We’re going to do it the way we did it in fall and not accept textbook charges,” Hinkle said. “It leads to a lot of confusion if you’re buying a book for a final and you plan to bring it right back. We’ve had students do that before.”
The policy changed from refusing all bursar charges two weeks before the semester ends to cut down on confusion about refunds versus buybacks.
Hinkle said most students have their textbooks by now.
“We used to just stop the whole thing, but the problem was only with textbooks,” Hinkle said.
Hinkle said students who discover they need a book for a final exam can still get it.
“If a student had an emergency and needed a book for a final we’d work with them,” he said.
