Gypsie, along with 20 other dogs, parade around Library Lawn on Friday afternoon. SUAB hosted the “Strutt your Mutt” dog show to benefit the Stillwater SPCA.
People brought their dogs, kids and friends to Library Lawn for a fashion and talent show to raise money for the Stillwater Humane Society.
The Student Union Activity Board sponsored the annual event, “Strutt Your Mutt.”
Attendees enjoyed a moon bounce, a castle slide, food, face painting and games.
Dogs were able to meet Clifford the Big Red Dog and treat themselves to the free food SUAB offered.
The highlight of the evening was the fashion and talent shows where owners were able to show off their pets’ unique talents, costumes or both.
Among these were two pugs, named Damian and Doris, dressed as butterflies; a sassy chihuahua in a pink fur-lined coat; and a schnauzer dyed pink and donned in a leopard jacket.
The talent show had dogs that could sing, dance and perform a variety of interesting tricks. The audience had the pleasure of casting their vote for the best along with a panel of judges.
Vicki Radke, a Marketing senior, said Strutt Your Mutt helps collect money for the Humane Society.
“It’s about reaching out to the community of students and the community of Stillwater that loves dogs or has a dog, and just an opportunity to come strutt your mutt,” Radke said.
Radke said that the various tables were set up as a way of getting the community to give to the Humane Society.
“At all of the tables we have, we have food and games and the recreation table, we have buckets set up for donations for the Humane Society because they are a very worthy cause.”
Radke said the dogs were having as much fun as the people.
“The dogs have been running around and having fun,” Radke said. “[The dogs have been] getting into the fountain and helped themselves to free hotdogs and popcorn.”
Amy Kubier, a fourth year Vet-Med student and the owner of butterfly pugs Damien and Doris, said she has attended every year and that she always has a good time.
“I just wanted to bring my dogs and have a little fun with them, put them in their costumes [and show them off],” Kubier said
The reason Kubier came was to show off her two pugs in their costumes, and it turns out they’re reigning champions.
“We won one year and placed second another year,” Kubier said.
The past few years, Strutt Your Mutt has been on Library Lawn, but this year it was right in front of the library. It was smaller, but still fun, Kubier said.
