The third annual “Strut Your Mutt Dog Show” benefits the Stillwater Humane Society.
Although Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has already come and gone this season, the most creative fashions have yet to hit the runway.
Tonight, models will show off inventive designs on Library Lawn.
The only difference between the models that walk at Bryant Park and those at Library Lawn is that tonight the pay is just Kibbles and Bits.
The Student Union Activities Board hosts the third annual “Strut Your Mutt Dog Show” in front of Library Lawn and the event serves multiple purposes.
“It is to benefit the Stillwater Humane Society and so everyone can bring their animals out,” said Kristin Wyckoff, an elementary education junior and SUAB outdoor chairman. “It is something for college students and the Stillwater community in general.”
The dog show, which starts at 7 p.m., is broken down into two categories, fashion and talent. Prizes such as dog beds, movies and dog bowls will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners of each category along with a crowd favorite.
In past events, the talents have ranged from basic obedience to elaborate Frisbee routines, but it is in the fashion competition that the true creativity shines through.
“[Previously] there was a dog dressed up like a bathtub with bubbles coming out of it,” said Wyckoff. “People go to pretty great lengths for these costumes.”
The night is about much more than a couple of pretty faces and high-end fashion.
Before the canines ever get the opportunity to strut their stuff, the SUAB is hosting carnival rides and food and the Humane Society will be on the lawns staring at 4 p.m.
Immediately after the show, the SUAB will play the movie “Enchanted” on the lawn while BINGO is available on the Student Union porch.
With so many activities planned for the attendees, both humans and their four-legged companions, the only question bigger than who will take home the top prize is who has more fun at the show.
“I think they both have fun,” said Wyckoff. “There are plenty of things to do and this year we are even adding a dog obstacle course.”
The SUAB expects at least 300 people to attend. For more information on the event or for registration forms visit the SUAB office in 030 of the Student Union basement or visit http://union.okstate.edu/SUAB.
