From staff reports
The Daily O’Collegian has placed in the Region 8 Mark of Excellence awards for the Society of Professional Journalists.
The Daily O’Collegian staff will be honored in the “Best All-Around Daily Newspaper” category at the Spring regional conference in New Orleans, La. on Friday and Saturday. The placing will be announced in the awards ceremony.
Former editor in chief Shannon Muchmore placed in the “In-depth Reporting” category for her story, “Regents waive bidding to hire university-related nonprofit” (read it at http://ocolly.com/2007/05/01/regents-waive-bidding-to-hire-university-related-nonprofit).
Muchmore writes for the Tulsa World.

Funny . . . that headline’s a bit misleading, isn’t it? The way I read the article, the O’Colly has “placed” in the category of “Best All-Around Daily Newspaper” but knows not the placing.
The headline seems to indicate it has already been awarded “best” when it might just be second-best, third-best, or even lesser-than-that-best.
