Unity through diversity is the International Student Organization’s theme for its annual Cultural Night. The event is Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Seretean Performing Arts Center.
The International Student Organization wants to achieve unity through diversity.
Unity through diversity is the theme for this year’s Cultural Night, an annual event ISO sponsors. Featuring a return to the competition format, 10 clubs will showcase performances hoping to claim the top prize.
Sandhya Jethnani, ISO cultural coordinator, said, “We have more performers this year, which gives all the area clubs a chance to showcase their culture and traditions.”
ISO brought back the competition format for Cultural Night after abolishing it in 2003.
The Cultural Night participants will perform at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Seretean Performing Arts Center.
Jethnani said this format gave the area clubs motivation to do their utmost and put on a great show.
Phuong Le, public relations officer of the ISO, said Cultural Night was the biggest ISO-organized event of the year.
“This two-night extravaganza is a competition for our International Area Clubs to display their respective cultures and spotlight the tremendous diversity found right here in Stillwater, Oklahoma,” Le said. “Cultural Night is the culmination of both fall and spring semesters’ long list of international events across campus.
“Our area clubs are practicing very hard, almost every day, at Colvin Center, Student Union … for this show. Every area club is trying to make a new interesting way to introduce their culture. It will be a great chance for Stillwater community to explore the world without paying thousands of dollars to travel.”
Tickets are sold at 076 Student Union from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Chi O’Clock and Student Union Bookstore from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Adams Market from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Students who want more information about the event can check out the Web site at http://www.orgs.okstate.edu/iSo.
Cultural Night ties in with OSU President Burns Hargis’ recent comments, said ISO president Hui Hui Ang.
“President Hargis has been promoting diversity and globalization and I think this night is an excellent reflection of that.” Ang said.
