OSU introduces new student ticket policy

Published: March 12, 2008

Oklahoma State University Athletics is introducing a new student-friendly ticket process for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The new process allows students to purchase football and basketball season tickets independently of each other.

The change also allows season tickets to be purchased for either sport at the Student Union or Gallagher-Iba Arena.

All other sporting events will be free of charge to students with a valid student ID.

The policy changes came, in part, after OSU athletic department staffers conducted meetings with several student groups.

The new process allows students to have printed tickets for football and men’s basketball. The change also gives students the opportunity to purchase season tickets by any payment method, not just through the bursar.

“This change will make student seating general admission at all venues. It eliminates the football validation process,” said Craig Clemons, associate athletic director for external affairs and development. “Student tickets will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.”

The process also allows for all students who may be interested in other sporting events, such as women’s basketball, soccer or baseball, to attend those events at no charge, without having to purchase the All-Sports Pass.

“The students were very favorable to the proposed changes,” Clemons said. “They valued the fact that football or basketball tickets could be purchased independently of each other.  They liked the idea of receiving a “book” of printed gameday tickets like our season ticket holders.”

Mike Holder, OSU’s Director of Athletics, said he wants students to be a part of OSU sports.

“Students bring a unique element to our contests,” Holder said. “We want to encourage home field and home court advantages at every opportunity through the energy provided by our loyal student fans.”

OSU Athletics is also offering a special student discount for the 2008 football season.

At $150 ($21.43 per seven home games), students will enjoy great views and new amenities in the $284 million Boone Pickens Stadium, scheduled for completion in 2009.

OSU will open its 2008 football season on Aug. 30 in Seattle against Washington State.

The Cowboys open the home season the following week against Houston.

In 2009, the OSU-Georgia rematch will be a historic event as the kickoff celebration for the official opening of the completed Boone Pickens Stadium.
