The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission has announced that Oklahoma State catcher Luis Flores is one of 36 catchers on the 2008 Johnny Bench Award watch list.
The Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award, which AT&T and Papa John’s Pizza delivers, is given annually to the top Division I collegiate catcher.
Flores, a junior, transferred to OSU this year after spending his first two collegiate seasons at Houston.
He has played in seven games for the Cowboys and is hitting .217 with three RBIs.
In two seasons at Houston, Flores played in 100 games and hit .275 with 17 home runs and 63 RBIs.
The watch list for the 2008 Johnny Bench Award will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in May, and finalists will be announced in June before the NCAA Super Regionals.
All finalists will be brought to Wichita, and the winner will be announced at the 11th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 27.
