A runoff is needed to determine the winners of the Stillwater City Council seats three and four.
A candidate must capture at least 51 percent of the total vote in order to win the seat, said Cathy Chapman, of the Payne County Election Board.
Chuck Hopkins, Gladeen Allred and Justin Biassou ran for seat three. Incumbent Hank Moore faced opposition from Darrell Dougherty and Bill Burk for seat four.
A runoff between Chuck Hopkins and Gladeen Allred for seat three and between Hank Moore and Darrell Dougherty for seat four will be held on April 1.
The results won’t be final until Friday by 5 p.m., said Chapman.
Hopkins received 1,103 votes, Allred received 1,041 and Biassou received 683.
Moore received 1,273 votes, Dougherty received 954 and Burk received 558.
The 2007 election only brought about 1,300 voters out to the polls, while this year more than 5,500 people voted, which is more than four times than last year.
Biassou, an aviation education senior, held a watch party in Stout Hall complete with food and drinks to await the results.
After the results came in, Biassou addressed his supporters.
“I had a great time,” he said. “The election was absolutely amazing.”
He said he was impressed with the number of voters that turned out compared to the previous year.
He encouraged people to continue to stay involved and vote in the runoff election.
