Student Government Association senators will deliberate over six pieces of legislation in tonight’s Senate meeting.
Five of the six bills regard money allocation to student groups.
Budget Chairman Michael Gumbs said the Panhellinic Council, Inter-Fraternity Council, Chi-Epsilon, Malaysian Student Society and the Nepalese Student Association are all on the agenda, and the Senate could disperse more than $4,000 to all of the groups if the bills pass.
Gumbs said while his Monday budget-committee meeting was relaxed, progress was still made.
“It was a quiet Monday for the budget committee but it was well needed,” Gumbs said. “It gave us the opportunity to start hunting down receipts from co-sponsorship and do some in-house organization.”
Austin Linton, committee on student organizations chairman, said a unique group is up for recognized status.
The group is OSU Brandeis-Hillel, Linton said.
Hillel is the largest Jewish campus organization in the world and can be found at more than 500 colleges and universities, according to Daily O’Collegian archives.
Linton said in the ‘60s this group existed informally and was afraid to register with Campus Life then due to anti-semitism.
Senate Chairman Justin Biassou said representatives from Butler and Boyd, Professional Limited Liability Company, are on tonight’s agenda.
The representatives will speak about expanding SGA’s legal services offered at OSU to match the other schools in the Big 12, Biassou said.
SGA presidential candidate Emilee Lehenbauer will visit with the Senate and discuss her plans and agenda as well, Biassou said.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in Case Study 2 of the Student Union.
As always, students are encouraged to attend the meeting and raise concerns.
