The time is running out to decide which candidate to support in the primary election. If you have already picked a candidate, it might be wise to find out if he or she is still running. Candidates like John Edwards and Rudy Giuliani have recently dropped out but their names still appear on the ballots.
Tomorrow, the O’Colly will publish a page on the candidates’ stance on higher education. Hopefully that will help readers reach a decision. The editorial board, comprised of members of both parties, will briefly endorse two candidates and why they should win the election. Some members of the editorial board abstained.
ROMNEY
It’s not just the special underwear attracting some Editorial Board members to Mitt Romney.
We’re most excited about Romney’s stance on renewable energy. For years, the Republican response for the approaching energy crisis has been, “Let’s drill in Alaska!”
No alternative energy sources, no incentives for businesses to research and invent biofuels. No, there’s oil in them there glaciers, go get it.
However, Romney said at several debates that the way for the U.S. to deal with the energy crisis is to invest in ethanol, biofuels and nuclear energy. May we say: Woohoo!
Romney may have a dwindling chance to take the race from McCain, but he tips just far enough to the right for us, thank you. On “Meet the Press” in 2007, Romney said he would not have a “faith litmus test” for Supreme Court justices or other appointed judges, and participating in democracy requires morality, not a particular religion. We couldn’t agree more.
OBAMA
No, we’re not voting for him just because he’s not Hillary.
Barack Obama is the candidate for change.
He believes homosexuality is not a choice and gives equal rights to gay civil unions.
He also lived abroad and grew up around Muslims, which provides better understanding of Islam and should aid in improving U.S. relations with the international community.
Obama also plans to create a program to guarantee quality education for all citizens and overhaul the education system.
He supports First Amendment rights and opposed a bill that proposed banning flag burning.
We believe Obama has enough governmental experience to do well as president but is not so jaded as a seasoned politico. He’s in position to stoke American fires and restore this country to its former glory.
— The Daily O’Collegian Editorial Board

I cannot imagine a more shallow, superficial, and lame endorsement. You like Romney because he doesn’t want to drill for oil in Alaska and he “tips just far enough to the right”? What does that even mean? Are you saying the supposed Republicans on the editorial board think it’s important that their preferred party, Republicans, not be too far to the right? I have no idea how to interpret this Romney endorsement, it seems a bit phony to me to be quite honest.
As for the Obama endorsement, it’s a joke. First you re-iterate this nonsense that he’s the candidate for change. Then you say that because he lived abroad and grew up around Muslims that’s going to improve our relations with the world? Give me a break, what a bunch of hogwash. Obama is a typical Democrat on every issue, with very little experience.
You could have put a lot more thought into this. The Romney endorsement is fake, half-hearted, and nonsensical. And the Obama endorsement sounds like you just went to take a look at his website a few minutes before you wrote it. Poor effort.
First, I would like to congratulate the editorial board for successfully failing once again at writing a semi-decent article. It really makes me laugh that you amateurs like to call yourself writers/journalists/reporters. Good luck with getting a job!
Second, It couldn’t be more obvious that a majority of you “writers” are for the “liberal” guy and it is even more obvious that you feel politics shouldn’t be fair and balanced.
Now, let me tell you why Obama is not the wisest choice! Sure he is a nice guy and yes he is an amazing public speaker…but that is where it stops. 2 years does not qualify anyone for the white house. He is almost just as amateur as a politician as you guys are as journalists. The “candidate for change”…that’s a cute slogan…I wonder where your creative little minds came up with that one?? The guy is an even bigger socialist than Hillary…and that my friends is SCARY. In some ways Obama even reminds me of Kerry. What I remember the most about Kerry in 2004 was how in every speech he made during the election he always claimed he had a plan…a plan for healthcare, a play for getting us out of the war, a plan for destroying our country, etc. Hell, it is easy to say you have a plan…but then you have to ACTUALLY tell us what the plan is. Kerry would time and time again tell us he had a plan but never actually tell us what actions the plan would actually execute. Obama does the exact same thing! He may claim he has a plan, but because of his lack of expierence he rarely ever tells us what the plan is…probably because he really doesn’t even know himself.
This article was a pathetic joke! If you are going to give your worthless input about the candidates then at least make sure it is fair and equal. I mean that is what your guy Obama would do, right? Fair and equal?
How about this for kicks…tomorrow when I open the paper you should put in one large page that says “VOTE FOR OBAMA…he has my vote!” …then after everyone sees that you guys are behind him…no one will vote for him!
Thanks again for allowing me to point out just how well you put together an awful article!
Have a wonderful day!
And Romney, it turns out, does want to drill for oil in Alaska. And McCain also supports alternative energy. In other words, you basically don’t give any reasons at all for why you support Romney over the other candidates. Weird.
Brilliant job–you managed to pick the 2 losers. Pure genius. guess it’s the mainstream media’s fault.
