The biggest question during the offseason for the offense was whether there would be a quarterback controversy. That question has been answered, for the coaches continue to place their trust in Bobby Reid.
But how can you keep a tremendous athlete like backup Zac Robinson off of the field? Offensive Coordinator Larry Fedora does not plan to.
Fedora said he wants to use Robinson on the field in a variety of trick plays and misdirection because Robinson can line up at quarterback, wide receiver and running back.
Robinson said he is ready to play whichever position he is asked.
“We have a couple plans we are working on,” Robinson said. “We will just see what the coaches come up with and go from there.”
Reid said he wants Robinson to play as much as possible.
“He provides [us] with something that can throw off the defense,” Reid said.
Reid and Robinson said their concentration in the past weeks has been solely on the game plan for Georgia.
“Everyone is just ready to play,” Reid said. “We are ready to get to Georgia and play some football.”
Coaches have spoken about Reid’s tremendous ability and awareness as a quarterback, but Reid said it is part of who he is.
“It’s like second nature to me,” Reid said. “I’m starting to see things before they happen on the field. It’s easier for me now.”
Reid said he is going to Georgia to take care of business. He said he is searching for the victory, and he believes he is a much-improved quarterback.
“[A victory] at a powerhouse like Georgia will bring great confidence to our team for the rest of the season,” Reid said. “It will be tough playing a [Southeastern Conference] team [like that]. We are going to go out there as Cowboys and give it all we got.”
Reid said his downfield running and scrambling out of the pocket is what he needs to improve the most because of how important making plays with his legs can be.
Reid said he also wants to do whatever he can to protect the ball.
‘[I know] not to do anything stupid with the ball,” Reid said. “[And] not to force anything into tight situations.”
Robinson said his and Reid’s improvement will help the team as a whole.
“As the quarterbacks get better, this whole offense looks improved,” Robinson said.
