It’s time to embark on another school year. The lazy days of summer are now merely obscure memories.
Many students don’t feel the same way and will soon learn that procrastinating and partying are the two evils of college life.
Getting behind is easy to do in college. If you think you can keep delaying assignments just because you don’t have a certain class for another day or two or because the assignment isn’t due for another week, you are in for an unpleasant surprise.
Procrastination is the rue of all students.
My first semester at OSU I spent the first couple of weeks attempting to meet new people by attending parties and other social functions. Unfortunately I didn’t really try to meet new people in class simply because I wasn’t there.
I figured if all we’re doing the first couple of weeks is taking boring notes I could get from a friend in class, and going over the syllabus, why shouldn’t I stay out and party all night and sleep till noon?
This mentality came back to bite me in the ass real hard. It was a struggle to keep a less than par GPA and even after enrolling in 18 hours, it appeared only 12 would actually be completed. I fell behind and struggled the entire semester to receive a passing grade.
When football season rolls around, there’s no worse feeling than having a big assignment hanging over your head while all your friends are at the game or tailgating.
It seems as though you have plenty of time this semester to complete all your assignments, they will begin to pile up and it becomes a nervous rush to complete them all at the end of the semester.
The quality is never as good when you attempt to complete a semester’s worth of work in just a few weeks.
It is difficult to make yourself sit down and do your work the first week or two back at school. It seems there’s always a party going on and you could be there if you didn’t have an assignment due next week. Trust me, there are going to be plenty of parties and opportunities for you to get wasted this semester.
Just try to stay on track and complete assignments on time. If you get a reasonable schedule and allow ample amount of time to work on assignments, then there should be plenty of time to go out with friends.
I think Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights are the only good nights to go out, so I might as well stay in Sunday through Wednesday and get my work done.
This sort of planning is a great way to limit, yet still allow time to party.
It’s easier said than done, but staying on track with school work and completing assignments and required readings on time is the key to a successful semester.
