Football team hopeful as camp winds down

As season opener approaches, the Cowboy football team gets eager

Published: August 23, 2007

The Oklahoma State Cowboy football squad is materializing into a fiery tornado as it looks to spread east to Georgia for the season opener.

The team is more excited than anyone can imagine. Georgia is the only objective on the boys’ minds, for preparation for this game started many months ago.

The summer months have been long and strenuous, but junior quarterback Bobby Reid is confident that they have paid off.

“(The team) is coming together well,” Reid said. “We still have some things to work on, but I think in the next couple days everyone will be polished and ready to go.

“Everybody is just ready to play. We are done with camp, which was the hard part, and we are just ready to get going.”

Reid said he was really feeling the static of the excitement of the coming game.

The explosive offense that Reid leads will endure a serious test against Georgia, but Reid said he remains certain that they are more than up to the task that lies ahead.

“Our receivers are doing good, well everyone’s doing good, and we should be ready to roll on the first,” Reid said.

One of the biggest questions on everyone’s mind is the receiving core and with whom rests the task of replacing the injured Artrell Woods.

Apparently the answer will be sophomore wide receiver Jeremy Broadway.

“He has started stepping up,” Reid said. “Every time we needed him to make a play for us he has, and I am just hoping he does the same thing on the first.”

Back-up quarterback Zac Robinson was feeling the butterflies of excitement in his stomach, as well.

He expressed the state of practice during the past few weeks.

“Practice has been going good, we are fighting and getting better every day on both sides of the ball,” Robinson said.

“(Bobby) and I continue to improve every day. As the quarterbacks get better, this whole offense looks improved.”

Robinson could see some action in the coming game at Athens, and he said that has made him all the more pumped-up.

The summer months have proved to provide a great comfort to Robinson. He feels the offense is working wonderfully together and he has become comfortable in the backfield.

Both quarterbacks assert that the offensive chemistry has blossomed over the summer, and they said they are working together almost flawlessly.

A super-charged offense working well together could, in fact, be the key to a success against Georgia.
