The Stillwater Area United Way is offering area residents an opportunity to win a boat while contributing money for a worthy cause.

A 17-foot Bayliner boat will be given away next week as part of the United Way’s annual fall campaign to raise money. The boat includes a 135 horsepower motor and trailer.

“We really appreciate the generosity of MerCruiser in donating the boat to us,” said Shelley Ricker, executive director of the Stillwater Area United Way.

Tickets for the raffle are $10 each or $50 for six and can be bought at Stillwater National Bank, BancFirst, The Bank N.A., Citizens’ Bank and the Payne County Bank, or charged to a credit card by calling (405) 377-2161.

The proceeds from the raffle will contribute to the United Way’s fall campaign, the goal of which is to raise $780,000.

A similar raffle was held last year for a boat that was given away at the annual Boomer Blast. However, Boomer Blast was canceled this year because of rain and the drawing has been extended to give it more time, Ricker said. The organization raised about $14,000 through the contest earlier.

“We would love to go above and beyond that this year,” she said.

The Stillwater Area United Way contributes to more than 20 organizations, including Red Cross, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and domestic violence. A complete listing of the groups is available at http://www.stillwaterunitedway.org.

Additional prizes for the raffle include eight club level tickets to an Oklahoma City Redhawks baseball game at the AT & T Bricktown Ballpark, which AT&T donated, or two tickets to a PGA practice round at Southern Hills, donated by Stillwater Radio. Third prize is a dinner for six, compliments of local post office employee Mark Perry, which will be held at a convenient time to be determined between Perry and the prize winner.

“He smokes all kinds of meats for friends and things, so he will fix dinner for six people, and his wife’s an [award-winning] pie maker, so she’s going to be helping with the side dishes and the dessert,” Ricker said.

Tickets will be available to purchase through Monday, July 23, and the drawing will be held the day after.

“Some lucky winner will own a boat next Tuesday,” Ricker said.
