Kiss that rocked the world

Last week at an AIDS Awareness Campaign in Jaipur, India, a small group of right-wing Indians managed to shift the attention from fighting the spread of HIV to an inane case of obscenity against Hollywood actor Richard Gere.

Gere, who kissed famous Indian actress Shilpa Shetty on the cheek, now has a warrant out for his arrest due to his violation of obscenity laws.

Most Indians can agree on the absurdity of this case. Deeming Gere as obscene and vulgar is the work of a minority of fundamentalists trying to create a commotion and hardly the views of the entire country.

OSU is ruining the Stillwater community

I have lived in Stillwater since 1997. I originally moved here because I could see myself going to college at OSU.

After a few years’ work and some saving, however, I was instantly taken with the friendly people and small town beauty of Stillwater and decided to make it my home.

One of the greatest attractants for the community was the mutual respect and cooperation the city and the university shared. The relationship was refreshing after living on the west and east coasts and watching big universities roll over their host communities and treat them like slaves for the institution.

Eating disorders not the way to get a summer body

It’s getting closer to summer and we all know what that means — swimsuits, the beach and skimpier clothing.

International students speak about experiences in U.S.

A timid woman slowly walked into the large, open office. The 5-foot-2 inch, petite Thai woman with long, dark hair approached the door to Stephen Miller’s office.

Student speaks out about her eating disorder

Amanda Grigg’s hair was long and blonde.

She had killer legs and a body that makes others want to order a salad for dinner then work out for a few hours.

Her smile wasn’t the only thing that was bright. She was incredibly intelligent. The intimidating type of intelligent.

Her passion for life and her unyielding determination dripped from every word that came out of her Loreal #253 painted lips.

This girl has it all. But if you were to tell her that you’d get a roll of her eyes and an uncomfortable clearing of her throat. For she does have it all, including an eating disorder.

Eating disorders are complex conditions that arise from a combination of long-standing behavioral, emotional, psychological, interpersonal and social factors.

Disorders are becoming more prevalent today than ever before as the media put more emphasis on physical appearances.

More than half of teenage girls and nearly one-third of teenage boys use unhealthy weight control behaviors such as skipping meals, fasting, smoking cigarettes, vomiting and taking laxatives, according to the National Eating Disorders Association.

Regents waive bidding to hire university-related nonprofit

OSU and its governing board last year waived policies requiring competitive bidding so the athletic department could pay $220,000 for catering services at Boone Pickens Stadium to a nonprofit ultimately overseen by OSU athletic director Mike Holder, a five-week investigation by The Daily O’Collegian revealed.

Driven to finish

Retiring to his living room after another long tiring day, he collapses into his mahogany brown leather chair in his living room.

He lifts his aching feet to rest comfortably on the ottoman. The room offers a sense of serenity; he is finally home.

The smell of dinner wafts in from the kitchen. His supportive wife is busy cooking meatloaf and mashed potatoes, his favorite meal. He breaths in a long, slow breath and exhales an exhausting sigh.

Duke nudges his hand wanting to play, but he lacks the energy to pick up the ball and start a game of fetch. The sound of his daughter crying in a nearby room summons him to his feet and he leaves to tend to her needs.

He returns with the baby in his arms and tries to comfort her. His eyes are heavy and dark underneath, indicating a lack of sleep. It is Wednesday, and the weekend is still a distant blur.
