Rocklahoma concert to honor Oklahoma centennial

Published: April 27, 2007

During the summer many college students search for jobs or vacation spots.

Some spend their summer catching some of the best bands that tour some of the biggest venues in the country.

The summer of 2007 brings concert goers many events to look forward to.

California holds the Coachella concert that resurrects the band Rage Against the Machine to play as part of a three-day concert that brings names such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

A free Ozzfest for loyal fans of Ozzy Osbourne is hard to top, but this year Oklahoma looks to contend.

The first annual Rocklahoma is a three-day concert north of Pryor off Highway 69 that will feature some of the biggest heavy metal hair bands that turned the ’80s into a fun time. For three days, July 13-15, fans will be allowed to camp at the same grounds Pryor’s Country Fever uses to enjoy a festival of some of the more notable ’80s bands and other performers.

Rocklahoma will show great bands starting on July 13, including Slaughter, Quiet Riot, Ratt and Poison. Some of the bands playing the next day are 36 Inches, Faster Pussycat, Warrant, Skid Row, Winger, Dokken and Vince Neil.

Though July 14 looks to be the biggest day of entertainment, the bands playing on the final day include L.A. Guns, Great White, Wasp and Jackyl.

Not all of the bands performing have been announced, and a rumor of an appearance from Twisted Sister has been noted on the concert’s Web site.

Add VH-1 Classic host Eddie Trunk playing the role of master of ceremonies and there’s no telling who could be added to the list.

Tickets for one to three days are available as well as VIP three-day tickets, which allow front-row seating and free beer and food.

Tickets are available now and range from $40 for a one day general admission ticket to $275 for a three day VIP ticket, according to http://www.rockfeverfest.com.

There are many differences between a concert festival and a single concert, but the type of crowd is the biggest variation.

The 50,000 plus capacity the area has to offer could most likely be full for last-minute ticket buyers, according to http://www.rockfeverfest.com.

Rock Fever and Miller Lite will present Rocklahoma in celebration of Oklahoma’s 100 years of statehood, according to the Web site.
