Martin looks to end career with national championship

Pablo Martin has begun his quest for world domination — well, at least the world of golfing.

Bedlam bummer

There is always something that stands out in a Bedlam game. In this second Bedlam meeting in Stillwater there were a few controversial calls and a pitchers’ duel.

In the end, the Cowgirls lost 2-1.

Jessica Hoppock pitched the 90th complete game of her career and struck out seven. She gave up two runs off eight hits and received the loss, dropping her to 13-15.

Catcher Courtney Totte said it was one of the best games Hoppock has pitched all year, and coach Rich Wieligman said he was proud of the senior’s performance.

Cowgirl tennis team ready for Big 12 tournament

The Oklahoma State women’s tennis team will compete in the 2007 Big 12 Conference Tournament Thursday through Sunday.

The Cowgirls had a week off last week, and after finishing 15-7 in the regular season, they hope to resume those winning ways in the tournament. Their 7-4 record in Big 12 play warranted fifth place in the conference, setting up a first round match with twelfth-seeded Iowa State on Thursday.

The Cyclones went winless in 11 Big 12 matches this season, including a 6-1 loss to Oklahoma State. In fact, the Cowgirls have never lost a match to Iowa State in 29 tries. Nevertheless, Oklahoma State coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said the Cowgirls wouldn’t overlook the Cyclones.

What’s up with that?

Question:

There seems to be some drama between the SGA Senate and president. Can members of the student government be impeached?

Answer:

Yes, but the Campus Life adviser who oversees SGA doesn’t expect one anytime soon.

Letter to the Editor

As the embryonic stem cell debate rages on, fertility clinics have been cast into the nation’s spotlight as potential lifesaving factories of research material.

Like a scene from “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones,” modern scientists are able to create thousands of individual embryos in a laboratory setting.

V-Tech clips give families some closure

Brian Williams visited the “Oprah Winfrey Show” on Tuesday to defend NBC’s decision to air contents of a package they received in the mail from Virginia Tech killer Seung-Hui Cho. The package contained video clips and pictures of the killer, as well as a manifesto in which he tried to explain the reasons for his actions.

Another dismal OSU faculty salary report

This year we welcomed 120 faculty from some of the best universities in the country, including Rice, Purdue, Penn State, MIT, Cornell and the University of North Carolina, just to mention a few. I feel confident that our faculty continues to improve.”

David Schmidly made these remarks at the Nov. 29 general faculty meeting. To some faculty sitting at the Wes Watkins Center auditorium, Schmidly, in his malapropos way, stated what Whitehurst administrators and regents think: new faculty, hired at all ranks at competitive salaries, are world-class and the basis of a future high-quality OSU.

Rides from DDs - cheaper than DUIs

It’s no secret that one shouldn’t drive drunk. That cab ride will cost a hell of a lot less than the $4,000 or so you might end up forking over for a DUI.

Plus, there’s just too much of a risk involved when you get behind the wheel wasted — you could kill someone. How’s living with that the rest of your life sound?

With SGA’s proposed designated driver program, SADDLES, students could make DUIs a thing of the past.

Manliest movie lines for all to know

Great movie lines are strange things. They have the ability to go beyond their respective movies and become a part of the collective conscious. For a brief moment, whoever quotes a line becomes that character and can convey the right mood at the right time.

Whole conversations can be conducted through quoting lines and telling inside jokes from movies. The lines quoted almost become markers in a person’s life.

Girls’ night

There is one thing every woman must have in her possession — the chick flick collection. Whether it’s a girls’ night or just sitting alone on the couch with some Ben and Jerry’s, a classic chick flick is the perfect relaxation tool.

Some students provide friends safe ride home

As the basketball games play on the big screens at Buffalo Wild Wings, Tracy Bray, an aviation graduate student, raises her glass and says, “Just water for me,” as her friends order another round of drinks.

Asian students not worried about backlash

Several members of OSU’s Asian community said that they haven’t experienced anything negative following the Virginia Tech shootings.

However, of the 411 Asian students at OSU, Catherine Vijayakumar, the coordinator of programs for the Multicultural Student Center, said she has spoken with several of them and they told her they haven’t had any issues.

OSU students propose plans for downtown Stillwater

A children’s museum that would house an after-school program is among the features of one of the downtown revitalization plans proposed Wednesday.

Tech savvy

With modern technology, students can check their grades online, create a PowerPoint presentation for a class project, or watch a live lecture of an instructor who is halfway around the world.

This technology has not always been available, however. Advances in technology in the past years have improved communication, teaching and learning opportunities for students and professors at OSU.
