NORMAN — Oklahoma State’s Pablo Martin and Jonathan Moore have been named semifinalists for the 2007 Ben Hogan Award.
The Hogan is presented annually to the top men’s NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or junior college golfer, taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the past 12 months.
The selection marked the third time Martin has been among the 10 semifinalists, while Moore made the list for the first time.
A junior from Malaga, Spain, Martin helped lead OSU to its 10th NCAA title last year en route to claiming first-team All-America honors as well as the Jack Nicklaus and Fred Haskins Awards, also given to the collegiate player of the year.
This season, Martin has played in four events for the Cowboys with his best finish being a third-place tie at the Fighting Illini Invitational.
He has competed in three professional events as well, making the cut at the PGA Tour’s Mayakoba Golf Classic and competing at the European Tour’s Madeira Island Open before making history this past week as the first amateur to ever win a European PGA Tour event with his victory at the Estoril Open de Portugal.
After his victory, Martin was named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for March, marking the fifth time during his career he has earned the honor.
Moore, a sophomore from Vancouver, Wash., has competed in six events this season for the Cowboys and had a school record-tying low round of 62 on his way to winning the Hawaii Hilo Invitational in February.
Last year, he became the eighth OSU player to win the NCAA individual title on his way to earning first-team All-America honors as well as the Phil Mickelson Award as the nation’s top freshman.
Moore qualified for the 2006 U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club and was named to the three-man World Amateur Team that represented the U.S. in South Africa in October.
He will also compete for the American squad at the 2007 Copa de las Americas Championship in June.
The Hogan Award selection committee will announce three finalists on May 2. The three finalists will attend the Hogan Award banquet on May 21 at Colonial Country Club, with the recipient announced that day.
