Students interested in learning more about studying abroad can attend the Study Abroad fair today in the Student Union Atrium from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The fair, held by the Study Abroad Office, will have booths for study abroad exhibitors such as Semester at Sea, National Student Exchange and the Peace Corps. OSU colleges will have information about their individual short-term programs, too.
STA Travel, which offers student travel discounts, will also be at the fair, and there will be information about scholarships and financing for studying abroad.
Marie Noss, study abroad adviser, said exchange students will be on hand from reciprocal-exchange programs.
“They’re presenting their countries at their table (and) trying to recruit American students to come to their universities,” Noss said. “We would like OSU students to go there for one semester or two.”
The fair has an international and domestic photo contest for students to participated in. The deadline for submission was Sept. 30 and the photos had to be taken between Aug. 1, 2004 and July 31, 2005.
Geraldine Auel, coordinator for the Study Abroad Office, said the purpose of the photo contest is to raise excitement about studying abroad.
“We started out with trying to encourage students who had been abroad to bring back their photographs and display them for everyone else because we all get interested in everybody else’s travels,” Auel said.
The photos are judged by three professional photographers, and the winner’s photos will be displayed outside the Student Union Bookstore Oct. 10 to Oct. 14.
Fair attendees can also vote for their favorite photo for the People’s Choice Award.
Winning photos will also appear on note cards that the Study Abroad Office sells to raise money for scholarships.
The fair began in 1996, the same year the office was established.
