This week kicks off Kappa Sigma’s fifth annual Krazy Days. The week-long event is a competition between all 11 Oklahoma State sororities.
At the end of the week, the Kappa Sigs will judge the sororities based on their spirit and performances during the competitions. The Kappa Sigs will reward all the profits from the week to the three top scoring sororities to donate to the charities of their choice.
“We want to make sure everyone has a good time, and that we raise as much money as possible for charity,” said Kevin Wagner, construction management technology junior.
“We’ve raised $15,000 in the first four years combined of doing Krazy days,” said Wagner, who is this year’s Krazy Days chairman. “It’s really been a good deal for our house.”
The events start Monday when the sororities will have a sand castle building contest on the lawn of the Kappa Sigma house at University and Cleveland. On Tuesday the Kappa Sigs will wash cars for $1 at Hastings parking lot on Hall of Fame and Main Street.
Other events include a date auction, a sign and banner competition, a talent show and a penny war. The Kappa Sigs will set up a stand at the Chi-O Clock this week for students to donate spare change to the penny war.
“Students are welcome to get involved in penny wars or come and get their cars washed at Hastings,” said Wagner. Wagner explained the events were created to be a fun way to get students involved in raising money to help charity.
For the past four years, Alpha Chi Omega has swept Krazy Days winning the top prize.
“We’re real excited to defend our streak this year,” said health promotions senior Meridith Maddox. “Our girls get real excited about this week.”
“It’s all about the elements of spirit and surprise,” Maddox said about what she thought the keys to victory in the event were. Maddox said any money they win will go to their local charity, the Stillwater Domestic Violence Center.
Ryan Wiese, who chaired the Krazy Days last year for the Kappa Sigs, said, “The main thing we look for is spirit.” He also said, “If the girls get really fired up we notice it.”
Wiese said sororities can show their spirit by shoe polishing cars or chalking around campus. Wiese said his favorite part of the event is “seeing everyone get involved to benefit a good cause.”
