The Oklahoma State University Board of Regents approved numerous personnel changes Friday, including a new Graduate College Dean at OSU.
A. Gordon Emslie has been named the new dean of the OSU Graduate College and associate vice president for research. He will assume his duties at OSU on Sept. 1, according to Marlene I. Strathe, OSU provost and senior vice president.
Emslie is currently the dean of the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and a professor of physics. He is also a licensed professional engineer in Alabama, who joined the physics faculty of the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1979, and served as chair from 1991-1999. In addition, he was interim chair of the Atmospheric Science Department from 1995-1997, according to the OSU News Bureau.
He received his B.S. in physics and astronomy, a Ph.D. in astrophysics, and a D.S. in science, all from the University of Glasgow. He received an M.S.E. in mechanical engineering, an M.S. degree in atmospheric science and an M.S. degree in materials science, all from the University of Alabama, according to the OSU News Bureau.
Emslie was a Wernher von Braun Fellow from 1981-1983, a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator from 1984-1989 and he received the Dean’s Service Award and the Research and Creative Achievement Award, both from the University of Alabama, according to the OSU News Bureau.
He has authored more than 100 refereed journal articles, one book and one popular article, according to the OSU News Bureau.
There will be other personnel changes made at OSU besides the addition of a new dean.
Donna Young Shin will be appointed assistant professor of music as of Sept. 1.
The retirement of Neil John Hackett, history, will be effective June 30.
The following faculty and staff members will receive changes in his or her title: Ann Clifford Candler-Lotven, from dean and professor, to professor, education; Wayne Lanning, from associate dean to professor, education; John S. Romans, from associate dean to associate professor, education; Kenneth D. Clinkenbeard, from professor and department head to professor, veterinary pathobiology; Kathleen N. Elliott, from director of budgets and accounting-controller, OSU-Tulsa and CHS, and associate controller for OSU and OSU System, to associate vice president and controller; David C. Bosserman, from vice president for administration and finance, and controller, to vice president for administration and finance, according to the OSU News Bureau.
