Oklahoma State’s top-ranked wrestling team captured the NWCA National Duals Team Championship today in Columbus, Ohio.
The Sooners (9-4, 0-2) took an early 3-0 lead after Bo Maynes decisioned Skyler Holman, 5-4 in sudden victory.
The Cowboys (10-0, 3-0) won their eighth straight dual against OU, while also giving up only 31 points in the entire tournament.
OSU tied the score at 3-3 when Johnny Thompson stayed unbeaten against Witt Durden, winning a 6-1 decision.
With the score tied heading into the 141 pound match, Zack Esposito faced off with Teyon Ware. Esposito scored and early takedown only to have Ware notch the escape. Ware would record a takedown, with Esposito scoring the escape to go into the second period tied at 3-3.
Esposito recorded a reversal off the whistle, but Ware ganered the escape to cut the lead within one. Ware scored the rest of the points, winning 5-5 in the tiebreaker, giving Esposito his first loss of the year.
The Cowboys went on to win the rest of the bouts en route to the tournament championship.
OSU will return to action this weekend when they host Oregon State on Jan. 25 and Oregon on Jan. 26.
