So Texas Tech is selling out the United Spirit Arena.
So the team is 13-3 and boasts the same conference record as Oklahoma State.
That’s trivial stuff. The real thing OSU needs to worry about leading up to Saturday’s tilt in Lubbock, is Bob Knight’s left eyebrow.
As far as I can tell, it’s out of control. Does he twist it around and pull it down over his eye on purpose? Is that the secret weapon that has propelled Tech to its fast start?
Will the eyebrow hand the Pokes their second loss in a row? Surely the Cowboys, if they are any sort of team, will respond with a solid effort Saturday afternoon.
It would seem the Cowboys had been playing with fire in several games prior to Tuesday’s rear-kicking.
They fell behind early, they started slow. But they kept coming back. Against Arkansas, against Ball State and against Baylor, the storyline was the same: Scare yourself early, scare them later.
But against Kansas, it was scare yourself early, then scare yourself some more later.
So which storyline will continue, or will the Pokes write a new chapter altogether?
The Cowboys are at a crossroads. The loss to Kansas marked the first time OSU lost consecutive home games since 1988. Saturday’s game is the perfect test to see how they respond to some major on-court adversity.
If they fold in Lubbock, there could be worse things to come.
If they rise to the occasion, their season could be back on track.
Bad timing?
The problem with OSU basketball fans is that they just pick the wrong times to try and strangle someone.
Instead of strangling a Texas player near the end of the Cowboys’ Jan. 5 loss, someone should have tried to strangle a Kansas player 15 minutes before Tuesday’s tip. Why not even two or three players? Maybe that way OSU could have kept KU’s lead within single digits in the first half.
Probably not. KU guard Kirk Hinrich, a freshman the last time Kansas came to Stillwater, said he had nightmares about Oklahoma State.
Jayhawk coach Roy Williams said after Tuesday’s game that OSU had made them look like a “bad junior high team” two years ago.
So you can bet the Jayhawks were looking for revenge and weren’t going to go down easily.
The only thing that went down easy Tuesday night was just about every Kansas shot.
Even the beer at Joe’s after the game couldn’t have been that smooth.
