Published: April 02, 2001

2. Knees — high-impact landings and quick, lateral movements lead to overuse injuries such as tendinitis.

3. Back — due to strong abdominal and spine muscles, cheerleaders often don’t feel the effects of stress to the spine caused by over-flexion and weight-bearing maneuvers.

4. Ankles — sprained ankles are commonplace during complex routine performances.

5. Shoulders — stunting can be compared to a military press with a moving barbell, putting shoulder area under pressure.
