Oklahoma State (23-9, 8-7 Big 12) took the lead early in the first game, putting up four runs in the first inning. Nebasett Brown and Jake Bollig led off the game with back-to-back singles.

Zach Cates walked to load the bases, setting up Paul Powell’s grand slam.

The Cowboys added a run in the second inning as Matt Oakes singled to center field and scored off of Bollig’s double. Bollig drove in another run as his fourth-inning single drove in Toby Rhodes, who led off the inning with a double down the right-field line.

Luke Scott put up the final run for the Cowboys, hitting his 10th home run of the season.

Iowa State (9-13-1, 4-4 Big 12) answered with lone runs in the first, second and sixth innings before Rob Conway hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning. The Cyclones also added a final run in the ninth inning.

Freshman Scott Baker picked up the win on the mound for the Cowboys, allowing only three runs and six hits in six innings of work. With the win, he moves to 6-1 on the season.

Offensively, the Cowboys were led by Bollig and Powell. Bollig was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Powell was 1-for-4 with a grand slam.

In the second game, Iowa State pitcher Alan Bomer held the Cowboys to only one run on seven hits over the course of nine innings as the Cyclones defeated the Cowboys 4-1.

Powell led the Cowboys offensively in the second game as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. Toby Rhodes was 1-for-2 and scored the Cowboys only run in the fifth inning.

Freshman Nick McCurdy was handed the loss for the Cowboys, despite pitching a no-hitter through the first five innings.
