The Cowboy tennis team knows this too well, as good outdoor practices have been hard to come by after OSU lost 6-1 at Baylor on Sunday.
To make matters worse, No. 9-ranked Texas and No. 5-ranked Texas A&M are visiting Stillwater this weekend.
The Cowboys host Texas at 1 p.m. Saturday and A&M at 1 p.m. Sunday. Both duals will be at OSU’s DeBois Tennis Center.
Despite Oklahoma State’s recent slide, coach James Wadley’s Cowboys, who beat No. 2 Tennessee earlier this year, are being realistic in their approach to the weekend.
“We have been struggling lately,” Wadley said. “Struggling with the weather, struggling with injuries, and struggling after a disappointing loss at Baylor.
“Everything is a struggle. But, that doesn’t mean that, on a given day, we can’t pull an upset. We’ve done it before.”
OSU (8-5, 2-1 Big 12) had won three-straight duals before the Baylor loss and are ranked No. 36 in the nation.
The Cowboys’ No. 1 doubles team of Matt Prentice and Eru Lyndon, ranked 26th nationally, will be critical this weekend as OSU looks for more production from doubles.
“The last two matches, we have played poorly in doubles,” Wadley said. “We need to get doubles back on track because that is what carried us in the fall.”
More than victories, Wadley and the Cowboys are looking for improvement this weekend, even if practice time has been limited.
“We need to improve every day,” Wadley said. “The weather has kept us from practicing like we want. We used to think that a good day was 75 degrees, and now we just want it to give us 54 degrees once.”
