The plane crash brought out the best in our community and unfortunately the worst with people trying to exploit it for their own gain. While the origins of the scam remain unknown at this time, the person or people responsible for it are just wrong.
In a time of tragedy we are more vulnerable. We are so eager to help the people most affected that we often let our guard down and open ourselves and bank accounts up for abuse by criminals.
If you receive a phone call asking for money to honor the crash victims obtain as much information as possible from the caller and alert the police.
Once again, it is sad that someone would prey upon our grief to make a quick buck. But that’s the world in which we live. But do not let the potential for scams deter you from making a donation to one of the established funds to honor the victims as the money generated will directly benefit their legacy.
