Gallagher-Iba Arena rarely has an empty seat during mens basketball game. But on nights our ladies take the court, or on days our softball team sweats it out on the diamond — where are all of those loyal Cowboy fans?
There are more than 100 women student athletes at OSU. For those who don’t know, OSU is home to eight different women’s athletic teams.
These remarkable ladies spend just as much time in the gym and on the practice field as their male counterparts, but for some reason they don’t get as much fan support at their sporting events.
There are several reasons why people should take time to go see an OSU women’s sporting event. First, these ladies represent OSU and are deserving of fan support.
Every time these ladies are successful on the court or field, they make OSU look more successful. OSU students, faculty and fans need to reward these ladies by cheering for them when they play at home.
Secondly, having a lot of fans at their games makes these women want to play harder and better.
When the Cowgirls hear loyal fans cheering them on it pumps them up and boosts their intensity level.
Third, just like male student athletes, female student athletes also have to juggle class and athletics.
The Cowgirls have to perform under immense pressure. These ladies work hard in the classroom then turn around and work even harder in their respective sports.
They need the same fan support that the men athletics teams get so they know all of their efforts are appreciated.
Fourth, in case you didn’t know, all OSU students and staff that have an All-Sports Ticket, already have tickets to the Cowgirl athletic events. Students don’t have to wait in line for ticket validation, and they don’t to camp out for tickets.
AST holders already have their ticket to women’s basketball, to soccer, to softball, and to other OSU women’s sporting events. So don’t waste your All-Sports Ticket. Use it to its fullest.
Finally, everyone should attend women’s athletics events because these ladies are damn good!
These women fight for wins just like the guys do, and entertain everyone in the process. So what reason do people have for missing a good sporting event?
I have heard all of the excuses, such as “women’s sports aren’t as exciting” and “I don’t have time.”
How could people possibly know what is exciting or not if they are not at the games to watch?
The seasons for women’s sports are just as long as the seasons for mens. Therefore, there are plenty of opportunities for students and staff to check out the Cowgirls.
Like I mentioned before, there are eight different women’s athletics teams at OSU, so I’m sure that there is at least one women’s sport that students can get interested in.
So the next time the opportunity arises, go to a women’s athletic event. You will be entertained and will have yet another opportunity to show Cowboy pride.
